I've really tried. I try with most genres of music. Give them all many listens, explore all the variations. The Dub stuff is better but aimless.I just cannot abide reggae and can't understand it's enduring popularity.

Tell me why I'm wrong and give me shit to listen to to change my mind.

Nothing not to like about it for me, my favourite reggae song is a John Holt classic If I were a carpenter which is a wonderful Bobby Darrin hit.

Re: Reggae
A specific question for those with a broad knowledge of reggae.

I mostly like rock / heavy rock / prog rock. One of the common characteristics to these genres is odd time signatures and occasional changes within songs (e.g Apocalypse in 9/8 by Genesis).

My question is, does any reggae do anything along these lines as it mostly seems to have a very constant 4/4 beat, or is this what makes it reggae in the first place?

Thank you very kindly.

Re: Reggae
You clearly don't listen to much reggae, I do and most of it is neither, racist or homophobic, that's more your 90s Ragga and some dancehall stuff.

Re: Reggae
We had tickets to see Horace Andy at the Red Lion in Leytonstone a few weeks ago and we thought it was the week after so missed it. Was gutted as he's one of my favourite Reggae artists.

Seeing the Mad Professor there soon.

Re: Reggae
This was the quote.

1986 — “Reggae, for example, is to me the most racist music in the entire world. It's an absolute total glorification of black supremacy... I don’t have very cast iron opinions on black music other than black modern music which I detest. I detest Stevie Wonder. I think Diana Ross is awful. I hate all those records in the Top 40 – Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston. I think they’re vile in the extreme... Obviously to get on Top Of The Pops these days, one has to be, by law, black,” he told Melody Maker.

As Morrissey once said, 'all reggae is vile'.......and he was right.

Ring the alarm HEY WOAH

Music is music and when it hits you feel no pain.

I am a white boy from the sticks and I know a decent tune when I hear one and I couldn't give a fuck if it's an I TAL I AN opera singer, JAP rapper, Jah RAStafari reggae spliffhead, Kent rock and roller or Mancunian pill popper. A tune is a tune and I have no prejudice.

Re: Reggae
Always loved me raggae. Fifty years ago I saw Desmond Dekker, the Upsetters and the Pioneers at the Ilford Palais.
All this bollocks about Bob Marley being godfather of reggae is just that - bollocks. If there's a godfather it has to be old Lee "scratch" Perry.
